Questions

Wedding catering FAQs.

How early should I book wedding catering in Patna?

Yes. We can handle tilak, haldi, mehndi, sangeet, baraat welcome, shaadi, vidaai breakfast and reception under one plan and one coordinator.

Do you offer a tasting?

Yes. Litti chokha, Champaran style dishes, khaja, tilkut, malpua and other regional favourites sit alongside North Indian, Chinese and Continental options.

How do you handle very large baraat crowds?

★ Catering cost guide

Wedding catering cost in Patna: per plate price guide for 2026

By the Peak & Plate team · Published 21 October 2026 · 5 min read

Wedding buffet with chefs at brass chafing dishes and lit serving counters
Short answer: in Patna, listed caterers start at roughly ₹250 to ₹900 per plate for a vegetarian menu and ₹500 to ₹1,400 for non-vegetarian. Your final price depends on the menu, guest count, counters and service. Ask for a written per-plate quote that lists exactly what is included.

“How much does wedding catering cost in Patna?” is the first question every family asks, and the honest answer is a range. We looked at what Patna caterers and banquet venues publish on wedding directories so you can set a realistic budget before you start calling.

What Patna caterers publish

WeddingWire’s Patna page says caterers in the city charge from around ₹500 to ₹1,500 per plate. Individual WedMeGood profiles for Patna caterers show starting prices that fall inside or just below that band: vegetarian menus from about ₹250 to ₹900 and non-vegetarian from about ₹500 to ₹1,400. Banquet halls that include in-house catering list standard veg plates from about ₹450 to ₹950.

Treat these as starting prices, not final bills. A “starting” plate usually means a basic menu with limited dishes and no live counters.

What moves the price up or down

  • Number of dishes: a 12-item buffet costs less than a 25-item spread with starters, counters and desserts.
  • Veg or non-veg: non-veg menus listed in Patna are consistently higher.
  • Live counters: chaat, tandoor, pasta and jalebi counters need chefs, equipment and extra staff.
  • Guest count: larger crowds can lower the per-plate rate, but need more staff and kitchen capacity.
  • Service staff and crockery: some quotes are food only, others include waiters, plates and setup.
  • Season and date: peak muhurat dates book out early. See our 2026 wedding season guide.

How to compare two quotes fairly

Ask both caterers for the same details: number of dishes, number of counters, staff count, crockery, taxes, transport and clear-up. A cheaper plate that leaves out staff and setup is often more expensive in the end.

How to set your budget

Multiply your confirmed guest count by a realistic per-plate rate, then add a 10 percent buffer for extra guests and late additions. Decide your must-haves (live counters, a dessert bar) before asking for quotes, so every caterer quotes the same thing.

At Peak & Plate we give a written per-plate quote after a short chat, with inclusions listed line by line and a tasting before you confirm.

Questions

Quick answers.

What is the average catering cost per plate in Patna?

Listed Patna caterers start at about ₹250 to ₹900 for veg and ₹500 to ₹1,400 for non-veg, with directories quoting a general range of ₹500 to ₹1,500. The final rate depends on your menu and service.

Is non-veg catering more expensive than veg in Patna?

Yes. Non-veg menus listed in Patna are consistently priced higher than veg menus.

Do per-plate prices include staff and crockery?

Not always. Ask whether staff, crockery, taxes, transport and clear-up are included in the quote.

★ Wedding season 2026

Wedding season 2026 in Patna: when to book your caterer

By the Peak & Plate team · Published 21 October 2026 · 4 min read

Floral wedding mandap on a lawn at dusk with live food counters in the background
Short answer: wedding dates are scarce between August and October 2026, then return in late November. Most calendars list 21, 24, 25 and 26 November and several dates in December, so caterers fill up fast. If you have a date in November or December, book now.

If you are planning a wedding in Patna this winter, the calendar matters more than anything else. Shubh Vivah muhurat dates cluster into a few weeks, and every caterer, banquet and decorator is chasing the same days.

Why demand rushes in November and December

Hindu marriage calendars show few or no wedding dates between August and October 2026, which is the Chaturmas period. Weddings resume after that pause. Panchang calendars list four main dates in November (21, 24, 25 and 26) and around seven in December, mostly in the first and second weeks. Exact dates vary by calendar and by your family’s kundli, so confirm with your pandit before printing cards.

The result is predictable: many weddings land on the same few days, and good caterers cannot serve more than a limited number of events on one date.

When to book your caterer

  • For November dates: book immediately. Dates are close and prime weekends may already be held.
  • For December dates: book within the next two to three weeks.
  • For January to March 2027: book 6 to 8 weeks ahead, and earlier for large weddings.

What to do in your first conversation

  1. Share every function date, not just the main wedding day.
  2. Give a realistic guest range for each function.
  3. Ask whether the caterer has another event on the same date and how they staff it.
  4. Ask for a tasting date before you pay an advance.
  5. Check your venue’s catering policy, because some banquets allow only in-house catering.

Other busy dates to plan around

Chhath Puja runs 13 to 16 November 2026, with the main evening offering on 15 November, so families in Patna are busy at home that week. Plan tastings and site visits either before or after it.

How to choose a wedding caterer in Patna: 12 questions to ask

By the Peak & Plate team · Published 21 October 2026 · 5 min read

Chefs presenting plated dishes to a family at a wedding food tasting
Short answer: choose a caterer who will let you taste the food, put the quote in writing, tell you exactly what is included and show you real events. Ask the twelve questions below before you pay any advance.

Patna has many wedding caterers, and directory listings make them look alike: a name, a starting price and a guest range. The difference shows up on the wedding day. These questions help you see it before you commit.

12 questions to ask before booking

  1. Is there a tasting? You should approve every dish before the date.
  2. What is the minimum and maximum guest count? Directory profiles show wide differences, from about 25 or 50 guests at the low end to 1,000 or more at the high end.
  3. Is the quote per plate, and what does it include? Staff, crockery, taxes, transport and clear-up should be listed.
  4. How many staff will serve my guests? Ask for a number, not a promise.
  5. Can you cook veg, Jain and non-veg separately?
  6. How many counters will run at peak time?
  7. Do you have another event on my date? If so, ask how they will staff both.
  8. What is the cancellation and advance policy? Get it in writing.
  9. Does my venue allow outside caterers? Many Patna banquets are in-house only, while others allow outside catering.
  10. Can I see photos or visit a past event?
  11. Who is my single point of contact?
  12. What happens if the headcount changes? Agree a cut-off date for final numbers.

Red flags

  • No written quote or a quote that only lists a single price.
  • Refusing a tasting.
  • Pressure to pay a large advance immediately.
  • Vague answers about staff numbers.

Check the venue first

Before you hire any caterer, ask your banquet or farmhouse about its catering policy. Listings for Patna venues show three patterns: in-house catering only, in-house plus outside catering allowed, or outside caterers permitted with conditions. This single question can save you from a double booking.

When you speak with Peak & Plate, we answer all twelve questions in writing. See our wedding catering page for how we work.

Questions

Quick answers.

How do I check if my venue allows outside caterers?

Ask the venue for its catering policy in writing. Some Patna banquets allow only in-house catering, while others allow outside caterers.

Should I pay an advance before the tasting?

We recommend tasting first and paying an advance only after you approve the menu and receive a written quote.

How many guests should I tell the caterer?

Give a realistic range for each function and agree a final headcount cut-off date.

★ Corporate catering guide

Corporate catering in Patna: how to choose a caterer for your office

By the Peak & Plate team · Published 21 October 2026 · 4 min read

Office buffet with stacked packed lunch boxes, chafing dishes and employees serving themselves
Short answer: for office and corporate catering in Patna, pick a caterer on punctuality, hygiene, dietary labelling and clear billing, not just price. For recurring lunches ask for a monthly plan, and for 300 or more meals ask for a site plan and a standby team.

Corporate catering is judged differently from wedding catering. Nobody remembers a wedding buffet that was one hour late; a team lunch that arrives late is remembered all week. Here is how to choose well.

Know which kind of catering you need

  • Recurring office lunches: daily or weekly meals with a rotating menu and fixed delivery slots.
  • Meetings and conferences: tea breaks, working lunches and dinners through a full-day agenda.
  • Annual days and celebrations: buffets, live counters and service staff.
  • Bulk packed meals: boxed lunches for trainings, sites and field teams.

What to ask a corporate caterer

  1. How early do you need the order, and what is the cut-off for changing the headcount?
  2. How do you pack and label veg, Jain and non-veg meals?
  3. What is the delivery window, and what is your backup if a vehicle is delayed?
  4. Do you provide tax invoices and clear billing for your accounts team?
  5. Can you hold a standing rate for repeat orders?
  6. Who is my account manager?

Plan by size

A team lunch for up to 100 people can usually be arranged within a few days. Seminars of 100 to 300 need a few more days, and orders above 300 need about two weeks or more so the kitchen, staff and logistics can be planned. Larger bulk orders benefit from a site visit.

Compare quotes on the same sheet

Ask each caterer for a per-plate or per-box quote with the same menu, delivery location, staff and crockery assumptions. Compare the total, not the headline rate.

Peak & Plate offers corporate catering and bulk booking in Patna with a single account manager, recurring plans and written quotes. Use the bulk booking form to send your requirement in a minute.

Questions

Quick answers.

How far ahead should I book corporate catering?

Team lunches can often be arranged in a few days. Seminars need about a week, and 300 or more meals need two weeks or more.

Can a caterer supply daily office lunches in Patna?

Yes. Ask for a recurring plan with a rotating menu and fixed delivery slots.

What should a corporate catering quote include?

Menu, per-plate or per-box price, staff, crockery, delivery, taxes and the headcount cut-off date.

Wedding menu ideas in Patna: veg and non-veg menu list with Bihari dishes

By the Peak & Plate team · Published 21 October 2026 · 5 min read

Chef serving from copper chafing dishes at a wedding buffet
Short answer: a good Patna wedding menu balances regional Bihari favourites with North Indian classics, a few starters, two or three live counters and a strong dessert round. Aim for variety across textures and spice levels, and plan veg, Jain and non-veg separately.

“Wedding menu ideas” is one of the most searched questions in catering, because the menu shapes how guests remember the evening. Below is a practical menu list you can adapt for a Patna wedding, with Bihari dishes included, and tips on how to balance it.

Welcome drinks and starters

  • Welcome drinks: shikanji, thandai, fresh juices and mocktails
  • Veg starters: paneer tikka, hara bhara kebab, crispy corn, veg spring rolls
  • Non-veg starters: chicken tikka, seekh kebab, fish fry

Bihari and regional favourites

  • Litti chokha with ghee
  • Champaran-style mutton
  • Sattu paratha
  • Dal pitha
  • Khaja and tilkut as sweet or snack bites

Main course

  • Veg: paneer lababdar, shahi paneer, dal makhani, mix veg, kofta curry
  • Non-veg: butter chicken, chicken curry, mutton rogan josh
  • Rice and breads: veg biryani, chicken biryani, jeera rice, tandoori roti, naan, lachha paratha
  • Sides: raita, salad bar, papad, pickles

Live counters

  • Chaat: dahi puchka, tikki chaat, papdi chaat
  • Pasta and noodles for guests who want a lighter option
  • Tandoor counter with fresh kebabs and breads
  • Jalebi or waffle station

Desserts

  • Gulab jamun, rasmalai, gajar halwa in winter
  • Malpua with rabri
  • Ice cream station
  • Mithai platters

How to balance your menu

  1. Mix textures and spice levels. Pair a rich gravy with a light dal, a dry dish and a fresh salad.
  2. Don’t duplicate. Too many paneer or too many gravies tire guests. Choose different bases.
  3. Plan for every diet. Keep veg, Jain and non-veg cooked and served separately, with enough veg main dishes that vegetarians never run short.
  4. Match the season. Winter menus suit gajar halwa and hot soups, while summer weddings need cooling drinks and desserts.
  5. Limit the total. A tighter menu cooked well beats a huge menu cooked in a rush.

Questions

Quick answers.

What should a wedding menu include?

A good menu includes welcome drinks, starters, veg and non-veg mains, rice and breads, live counters and desserts.

How many dishes should a wedding menu have?

There is no fixed number. A focused, well-cooked menu serves guests better than a very long one made in a rush.

Can I include Bihari dishes in a wedding menu?

Yes. Litti chokha, Champaran-style mutton, dal pitha, khaja and tilkut can sit alongside North Indian and Chinese options.

★ Catering quantity guide

How much food per person? A catering quantity guide for weddings and parties

By the Peak & Plate team · Published 21 October 2026 · 4 min read

Catering chefs plating dishes at a serving counter for guests
Short answer: plan food by guest count, meal type and serving style, then add a 10 to 15 percent buffer for buffet service. For snacks, plan 4 to 6 pieces per person per hour. Share a confirmed headcount and veg to non-veg split with your caterer, who will calculate each dish.

“How much food per person?” is one of the most common catering questions, and getting it wrong ruins an event. Too little and guests leave hungry. Too much and you pay for waste. Here is how caterers approach it.

Start with four numbers

  1. Confirmed guests. Count adults and children separately. Many caterers count children as a smaller portion, so ask how yours does it.
  2. Meal type. A full dinner needs far more than a snack party.
  3. Serving style. Buffet, plated and live counters each use food differently.
  4. Duration. A four-hour reception needs more than a two-hour lunch.

Rules of thumb that caterers use

  • Buffet buffer: one party-planning guide recommends adding 10 to 15 percent extra to every quantity for buffet service, because guests serve themselves.
  • Snacks and cocktail bites: plan about 4 to 6 pieces per person for the first hour, and more as the event runs longer.
  • Variety changes quantity: a larger spread of dishes means guests take smaller amounts of each, so you need less of any single dish.
  • Staffed serving helps: WeddingWire’s advice is that having staff serve from the buffet keeps portions consistent across the line.

Don’t split every dish equally

Popular dishes such as biryani, paneer dishes, chaat and desserts go first. Quiet dishes go slowly. Your caterer should weight quantities by popularity and keep extra of the favourites, so the last guests in the queue still have a full choice.

Plan veg and non-veg separately

Share your veg to non-veg ratio, plus any Jain guests. Vegetarians should never be left with an empty tray because non-veg guests took veg dishes too. Ask for separate counters and separate staff for each.

Fix a headcount cut-off

Agree a date when the final number is locked, usually a few days before the event. After that, change only by agreement. Tell your caterer about peak times too, because a baraat arriving together needs more counters than guests arriving over two hours.

A simple planning checklist

  • Confirmed adults and children
  • Veg, Jain and non-veg split
  • Number of dishes and counters
  • Event start, peak and end time
  • Buffer percentage and who approves extra food

Peak & Plate plans quantities dish by dish for every wedding and corporate event, and explains the numbers before you pay.
